　　Mr. Ren was admitted in 1986 at 14 years of age into the SPECIAL CLASS for the GIFTED YOUTHS, my university s unique program that caters to the intellectual needs of unusually talented Chinese youngsters. It was a rare privilege he earned with his nearly impeccable academic performance through the years of his elementary

　　and secondary school.

　　He impressed me almost as he entered into my university, a major cradle of china s scientific and technological talents. At the time, members of the Gifted Class all had to spend half a month studying by themselves the principles of calculus and then take an exam so that we could evaluate their self-study capability. Mr. Ren scored the highest grade in that exam. He also exhibited a keenly whetted mind during class discussions. To my regret at the time, his English was not as good as his mathematics or physics. But I noticed he made a point of working especially hard in improving his English during his five undergraduate years with us. By now, he seems to be at least as proficient in English as most of his former classmates in the Gifted Class.

　　In my experience with Mr. Ren, I was impressed with not only his extraordinary intelligence but also his ambitions and persistence. 　　準備推薦信時要注意兩個“一定”：

　　1、美國研究生推薦信：推薦人一定要合理選擇

　　因為推薦人應該是在申請者素質發(fā)展的幾個方面最有發(fā)言權的典型人物。如很多學生在申請MASTER時會選擇在自己的專業(yè)方向上最權威的教授來寫推薦信，但是對于那些成績平平的申請者，沒有這方面的交際，無法請所謂的“牛人”來幫助自己，在這里建議申請者可以多采取主動攻勢，如果有機會參加研討活動或大型會議等等專業(yè)社交活動，創(chuàng)造機會多結識一些專業(yè)人士，和他們談談他們自己的專業(yè)和深度，會有非常大的幫助。

　　另一方面，學校要求3-4份推薦信，要注意選擇推薦人的時候要有不同的身份區(qū)分。這是指不要總是找只能給你的某一方面下評語的人，例如全找自己所在學校和專業(yè)的授課老師，教授和院長等作為自己的推薦人。這樣的推薦信會讓評審會非常遲疑，因為他們只了解推薦人對你在一個方面的評價，對其他方面完全無法得知。所以最好找擁有不同背景的人從不同方面來評價你，這樣可以使推薦信更豐富，你的綜合情況更易被了解。

　　2、美國研究生推薦信：內容一定盡量客觀

　　美國研究生申請推薦信的具體要求

　　找?guī)讉€推薦人寫推薦信要根據(jù)大學的要求。有的大學要求學生找兩個推薦人寫推薦信，有的大學要求學生提供三個不同推薦人寫的推薦信。一般要求學生聯(lián)系三個推薦人。

　　美國研究生申請推薦信怎么提交？有什么具體要求？

　　推薦信的提交方式要根據(jù)大學的要求。有的大學規(guī)定郵寄推薦信和網(wǎng)上提交推薦信都可以，兩種方式選擇其一。有的學校強烈建議選擇網(wǎng)上提交，也就是online方式。

　　如果學生選擇郵寄推薦信，需要把推薦信打印出N份(要申請多少所學校就要至少準備多少份，最好再多準備幾份備用)，然后每份推薦信都要讓老師簽字。另外大學多數(shù)在網(wǎng)站上都提供推薦信表格，每個學校的推薦信表格版本不同，一般在網(wǎng)申的時候就可以下載到。學生要把推薦信表格下載下來，表格的上部分是學生的個人信息，由學生個人填寫好，一般要求簽字和寫日期。之后，把表格交給老師，推薦信表格的下半部分是老師對學生的評價。老師填寫完，一般也要簽字和寫日期。之后，把簽過字的推薦信和推薦信表格裝到信封中，把信封封好，信封封口處簽字。這樣一份推薦信就準備好了。如果選擇online提交，學生需要提前跟推薦人打好招呼，讓推薦人提供一個經(jīng)常用的郵箱。一般情況下，如果推薦人是老師，最好提供他的工作郵箱。郵箱千萬不能拼寫錯，這很重要，否則就會影響推薦信的提交。之后學生在填寫網(wǎng)上申請表的時候，有專門填寫推薦人信息的欄目，包括推薦人的電話、地址、郵箱等。有的學校會問推薦人是否選擇online提交，選擇“是”就可以了。如果選擇“否”，就需要郵寄提交了。推薦人會在學生填表后收到大學發(fā)來的郵件，包含了網(wǎng)址鏈接和登陸密碼。老師根據(jù)登陸密碼上到特定的網(wǎng)址在線填寫推薦信并直接在網(wǎng)上提交。選擇online推薦，就不需要再郵寄簽字的推薦信，也不需要再郵寄推薦信表格。
