一、審題立意
四級作文寫作過程中最關鍵的步驟就是審題，不仔細審題就會很容易使作文跑題，因此這是必不可少的第一步。此步驟要注意兩點：一是分析題目和圖畫，確定文章的命題類型，抓住中心思想，聯想此作文要求的寫作主題。二是進一步確定給定的題材及此作文要考查的重點內容。也就是說，通過審題，考生要對作文談論的主要話題心中有數。
二、組織結構
審題之后，根據分析的結果草擬提綱并組織安排段落，確定文章的整體結構。一般而言，考生可將圖畫作文轉化為三段式提綱作文。開始段描述圖畫內容；中間段解釋圖畫所反映出來的深層意義；結尾段引出結論，總結全文。各段的主題句要條理清晰，以使自己要表達的內容有更好的把握。每段的`重點都應集中于描述圖畫規(guī)定的內容。選用的詞句應緊扣圖畫主題、突出重點、前后連貫、表達清楚。
三、檢查修改
考試過程中，很多考生由于緊張、倉促等原因，很容易犯一些簡單的錯誤。因此，最后留出幾分鐘時間來修改所寫內容是很有必要的。然而，切忌大幅度地對作文驚醒修改，因為這樣會破壞卷面整潔，影響閱卷老師對試卷的印象。修改時可以從兩點著手：
語法方面。包括時態(tài)是正確、名詞單復數是否對應、被動主動語態(tài)是否正確、主謂是否一致等。
詞匯方面。包括連接上下句或段落的關聯詞、固定搭配、及物不及物動詞的使用、習慣用語是否使用正確等。同時，單詞拼寫錯誤和標點誤用都是扣分點，考生應盡量避免此類錯誤。
